This Could Be (one of) the Last Time(s)

The fact that I live an apartment on the twentieth floor is not news to this blog. This high position allows for a fine, if not a little post-apocalyptic at times, view of Suwon on all but the most weather beaten of days. I have grown fond of taking photographs of the many perspectives this home of ours provides. There aren’t many opportunities left for me to do this. 20140606-193730.jpg After four and a half years here in Korea, which is essentially the whole life cycle of this blog, we are returning to Ireland to live. 20140606-193754.jpg Things you need to know: This is an indefinite move. We really aren’t sure where we will eventually settle down. 20140606-193806.jpg We will never leave Korea forever. We will be back. This is a certainty. Just don’t ask me when. It’s going to be a crazy change, and we are excited, terrified, happy, and of course sad to be making such a move. This is a life changer. 20140606-193825.jpg Before we came back to Korea in 2010 we moved country four times in a year and a half. We’ve enjoyed the stability. I’ve really enjoyed writing here about life in Korea, and I know many of my regular readers are here for my writing about Korea. I hope that you will join me as I document life in Ireland, when I find a minute to spare (of course). 20140606-193840.jpg So that’s my big news, in case you’ve been wondering. So with that in mind, here’s a song.

…And a post-apocalyptic-ish sunset

P.S. I hate packing/moving country almost as much as I hate K-pop. It’s going to be a blast!

  1. Wow. I do love experiencing Korea through your eyes and words. I am relatively new to your blog but it’s one I don’t miss reading. My hubby has been in the hospital MOST of this year so spending hour after hour starring at my phone, which is not the best way to enjoy blog reading or any reading for that matter, has saved me from irrational bouts of crying. Listening to and reading about KPOP (sorry. I mean perfect music to pack and move by) ha. has helped me through the days, weeks and months. I have also enjoyed the pictures you have posted because it showed me something unique and wonderful. Places I may never get to see, have been placed in the recesses of my mind and I can go to them any time I want. Should I forget any flower, tree, building or sunrise….I can always go to them again because of the wonderful World Wide Web. Thanks for using this power for good. I Plan on following you to Ireland. Congrats and good luck with your move. All my best to herself and plus one as they make that journey with you…. And a little KPOP never hurt anyone. Really.

    • Really sorry to hear about your husband, I hope he gets well soon. We all need our outlets to escape mentally from difficult times. The internet has to magic touch to it that it allows us travel wherever we would like to go thanks to the journeys of others. It’s a kind of community you don’t hear much about, but it’s definitely one I subscribe to. I look forward to hearing from you once we get home 🙂

  2. I am about to embark on the other version of this post … planning to pack up and move to Korea for a few years. Would have liked to have caught up with you for a pint and a chat. Perhaps when you visit …

But you have inspired me to get my head around blogging and take on a similar chronicling of my experience. (If only I can find the minutes to spare!) Thanks for the insights Conor.

    • Thanks for your comment. Korea is a wonderful place, but requires and open mind and a pinch of salt or two to get used to living here. But complaints and compliments aside, it’s a great place to live and to find out a little bit about yourself. The blogging is good fun too – if you told me four years ago that I’d be still plugging away at this I’d have laughed at you. It’s a great way for honing your writing skills, as well as offering you a place to put photography, work with your ideas, and if you’re into website building, you can work on them here too. Good luck with it all 🙂
